Lingering chance of thunderstorms for SoCal as extreme heat leaves region
Another hot day but forecasters are still not ruling out the chance of afternoon thunderstorms over SoCal mountains.

Some good news for SoCal: extreme heat has left the chat.
It's still hot out there for inland areas, valleys and deserts, but the National Weather Service says come Thursday temperatures will be back to normal.
L.A. County beaches are seeing more relief as temperatures are finally below the 80s. Today's highs will reach 74 to 79 degrees. Downtown L.A., however, is in for another warm day with highs reaching up to 91 degrees.
Meanwhile, L.A. County valley communities will experience a range of temperatures. Areas closer to the coast will see highs from 78 to 83 degrees, and from 86 to 95 degrees more inland.
In Orange County expect highs in the mid 70s for coastal areas and mid 80s more inland. For the Inland Empire temperatures there will range from 88 to 96 degrees.
And in Coachella Valley, highs will tap out at 101 degrees.

As for thunderstorm chances: L.A. County and San Bernardino County mountains could see some thunderstorms this afternoon. For L.A. County, that includes Antelope Valley, I-5 Corridor and San Gabriel Mountains. Isolated dry lightning strikes are possible.
SoCal Cooling Centers
In L.A., Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties, call 3-1-1 or call for a list of cooling centers. In the city of Los Angeles, you can also find a list of recreation centers, senior centers and libraries — all good choices for cooling off — online.
- Tip: Call the center in advance to make sure seating is available.
- Tip: If the center you want is at capacity, or non-operational, head to a local, air-conditioned library and cool off with a book about ice fishing in Antarctica.
