Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Today's weather is just right for a stroll through the park, a farmers market or your garden. It's also last call for warm days as a cooling trend kicks in tomorrow.

Quick Facts
    • Today’s weather: Warm, sunny
    • Beaches: 70s
    • Mountains/deserts: 70s/80s-104
    • Inland: 90s
    • Warnings and advisories: Dense fog, Fire Watch

We're looking at highs in the low 80s for downtown L.A. and the San Gabriel valley, in the 90s for the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys.

Along the coast, temperatures are staying cool in the mid 70s up to 79 in Long Beach with low clouds through the morning.

More inland, temperatures are still in the low 90s, in the high 80s in Orange County. The high deserts are being spared the scorching temperatures, with temperatures reaching the upper 80s. But in Coachella Valley, it will get up to 104.

The lows for most of Southern California will be in the low 60s.

That's California weather for you.

Taking a look ahead: Tomorrow we start to see a cool down with temperatures dropping 2 to 5 degrees and even more for the weekend. There's a chance of rain on Saturday evening. It'll feel like late November weather instead. But, if you've been to a 99 cent store, the Christmas decor on the shelves makes it feel like late November already.

About those advisories

There's a dense fog advisory out for Orange County coastal areas until 9 a.m. this morning.

And the weather is making for ripe fire weather conditions, especially in Santa Barbara and the I-5 corridor. The National Weather Service has issued a fire watch starting at 9 a.m. today until Thursday 5 a.m. (that's when the weather is expected to cool down).

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
