It's finally Friday! If you're looking for a good excuse to stay indoors, recharge and queue up your favorite show instead of committing to afterwork plans, then today's weather forecast is a good enough reason. It will be unseasonably hot everywhere and the National Weather Service recommends staying indoors and hydrated.

Quick Facts
    • Today’s weather: Warm, sunny
    • Beaches: 80s
    • Mountains: 80s-90s/89-104
    • Inland: upper 90s
    • Warnings and advisories: Heat advisories

Today's highs for the coast will be in the 80s, up to 98 in downtown L.A. In the Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valleys, the temperatures will reach the triple digits into the low 100s. In the San Gabriel and Antelope valleys, highs will be up to 98.

Moving inland, afternoon highs in Riverside and San Bernardino counties will top out at 99 degrees. In Orange County, expect a high of 96. Along the OC coast temperatures will be in the upper 80s. Over in Coachella Valley, temperatures will reach up to 104.

Nighttime lows are still in the mid 60s. Expect the weather to cool down come Sunday.

About those advisories

There are heat advisories for most parts in Southern California in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday. Here's a list:

  • L.A. County valleys, beaches
  • San Bernardino County valleys
  • Riverside County valleys
  • Inland Empire
  • Orange County inland
  • San Gabriel mountains
  • Santa Monica mountains

This day in history

On this day in 2022, a massive dust storm known as a haboob was seen covering Riverside County, the Imperial Valley and San Diego County.

Things to do

All this hot and dry weather will make you want to come out only at night. So here's a fun nighttime activity to get into the Halloween spirit:

  • Carved: The family-friendly Halloween event returns with hundreds of carved pumpkins lining the garden's lit pathways. View sculptures made of sticks and other natural materials and an expanded “Rhizome” installation by Tom and Lien Dekyvere, and don't forget to visit the Pumpkin House. Halloween-themed food and beverages will be available for purchase.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
