Now is a good time to get a car wash as we won't be seeing any wet weather for the new few days. The not so good news is that the Santa Ana winds are back and we should be on alert for fire weather.

QUICK FACTS
    • Today’s weather: Sunny, breezy
    • Beaches: 60s-70s
    • Mountains/deserts: 60s-70s/ 72-87
    • Inland: mid 70s
    • Warnings and advisories: High wind watch, fire weather watch

In today's forecast, the coastal areas are still pretty cool, with highs in the upper 60s, and up to 70 in Long Beach. Downtown L.A. will see a high of 73 degrees and the valleys will warm up to the mid 70s — up to 78 in the hottest parts of the San Fernando Valley.

Riverside, Orange and San Bernardino counties will see highs up to 74.

Low desert temperatures have risen measurably up to 87 for today, but it's still cool in the high desert with a high of 72.

Tonight's lows will stay in the 50s.

Taking a look ahead: There's a strong Santa Ana wind event coming our way for Saturday and that's prompted the National Weather Service to issue a couple of warnings.

About those advisories

The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch for L.A. County as the first significant Santa Ana wind event of the season is expected over the weekend.

"The environment is favorable for rapid fire growth if a fire is started. So use extreme caution because we have potential fire ignition sources, and it'd be a good time to get updated on your personal evacuation plan," said National Weather Service meteorologist Rose Schoenfeld.

Fire weather watches can be upgraded to red flag warnings. We have a guide on how to prepare.

The watch is in effect from Saturday night through Monday morning. The strongest Santa Ana winds will hit the valleys, San Gabriel mountains and Santa Susana mountains, including 5 and 14 freeway corridors on Sunday, with local gusts between 35 to 50 mph.

There's a high wind watch for Riverside and San Bernardino county valleys and mountains where strong northeast winds between 20 to 30 mph, gusts up between 45 to 65 mph.

This day in history

On this day in 1993, Santa Ana winds brought the Laguna fire to life.

Things to do

We made it to Friday! Here's a few ways to kick off the weekend:

  • Fleetmac Wood: Silver Storms Ball: Get ready to twirl on the dance floor as the Fleetmac Wood party returns. Don’t expect Fleetwood Mac covers. Instead, hear new electronic takes from DJs Roxanne Roll and Alex Oxley, who take on the timeless music to create a singular rave and AV show. Ages 21+.
  • Looking for something new to binge watch? How about Neon, or season 2 of the Gilded Age? Read my colleague's guide on what to watch weekend.
