Rain moved across Southern California on Wednesday, bringing with it cooler temperatures and a potential dampener on the start of this year's fire season.

The fall weather system isn't expected to generate much rain, with amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except in the case of possible in thunderstorms, the National Weather Service reported. Showers will continue overnight, with A 50% chance of showers on Thursday.

Quick Facts

  • Today’s weather: Scattered showers, cloudy
  • Beaches: upper 60s
  • Mountains/deserts: 60s/66-77
  • Inland: low 70s

This day in history

Talk about a climate change check. Today we're seeing the first rain event of the season, but on this day in 2008, the Santa Ana winds blew strong gusts that lead to the Freeway Complex Fire in the northern Inland Empire.

Things to do

What better way to take in the rain, than to attend a night of supernatural fun:

  • Belle, Book & Candle: Darkness Falls: Attend a night of witchy fun, featuring burlesque, go-go dancing, psychics and vendors. The performance lineup includes Lux La Croix, Ruby Champagne, Queenie Blonde, Queen Ruby, Princess Farhana and Charlotte La Belle Araignee. Mae Lust emcees the night, which also features Lizzie Sixx on the turntables and rituals by Intuitive Shana.

Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else.
