Your SoCal Weather Report For Wednesday, March 6: Rain And Mountain Snow

Good morning SoCal. It's going to be a wet Wednesday so don't forget the umbrella and boots.
-
- Today’s weather: Showers
- Beaches: low 60s
- Mountains: 40s - 50s
- Inland: 60s
- Warnings and advisories: Winter Weather Advisory
In today's forecast, temperatures have dropped a couple of degrees as a storm from the Gulf of Alaska has moved in. Highs will be in the low to mid 60s from the coast to inland areas, and up to 73 degrees in Coachella Valley.
You can expect rain later this morning and a chance of thunderstorms in the evening, up to half an inch across the coasts, valleys and mountains.
As for that mountain snow, the San Gabriel Mountains could see up to 8 inches of snow at elevations above 6,500 feet and in the San Bernardino mountains expect no more than 5 inches above 6,500 feet. A couple of inches will dust the lower elevations, which could make driving difficult through the mountain passes including highways 2, 18 and 38.
Come tomorrow, it will be mostly sunny and windy in the evening.
This day in history
On this day in 2001 a funnel cloud was observed in Yorba Linda.
Things to do
Take it easy today.
- Writers Bloc: Michele Norris + Lena Waithe: Former All Things Considered host Michele Norris is on stage at Writers Bloc in conversation with actor-writer-director Lena Waithe (The Chi). Norris will talk about her new book, Our Hidden Conversations. The book grew out of The Race Card Project, which asked Americans to talk about their feelings on race in just six words.
- Puppet-Making Workshop: LACMA hosts a Communities Create LA event in Inglewood where kids (and adults too) can make fun (and elaborate!) puppets from brown paper bags.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
