Good morning SoCal, it's Monday and in the forecast today is the radiance of the warm March sun and spring showers.

Quick Facts

  • Today’s weather: Partly cloudy, afternoon showers
  • Beaches: 68
  • Mountains: 50s-60s
  • Inland: 70s
  • Warnings and advisories: None

Highs will be in the 70s for the inland coast, valleys and Inland Empire, up to 80 degrees in the warmest parts of the San Fernando Valley. Along the coast, expect a high of 68 degrees.

For this afternoon the National Weather Service is seeing an upper low moving westward from Arizona carrying moisture — that means for the Southland there's a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Weather forecasters say given the probability of thunderstorms — mainly for the mountains and deserts — lookout for hail, lightning and strong wind gusts along the coasts and valleys up to 50 mph.

Taking a look ahead, the upper low will begin moving out the region come Tuesday, meaning forecasters are not ruling out the chance of light showers tomorrow morning through the afternoon. The upper low should move back to Arizona come Tuesday evening. Keep up to date by following the NWS.

This day in history

On this day in 1978, Santana and Aerosmith headlined the California Jam II at the Ontario Motor Speedway.

Things to do

Looking for some Monday Motivation? We got some recs, like spending an evening with the butterflies.

  • Butterfly Pavilion: Monarch and Mourning Cloak and Common Buckeye, oh my! Spend an afternoon amongst the more than 30 native butterfly species in season at the Natural History Museum’s Butterfly Pavilion from now through the summer.
  • Andre 3000: Andre 3000 just came off a sold-out few nights in L.A. and is back for more, this time at the very cool Luna Luna art installation just over the 6th Street Viaduct. His new flute (yes, flute) album has been getting rave reviews – but if you’re expecting an Outkast concert, you’ll be disappointed. The mystical 1987 art amusement park Luna Luna, with its Jean-Michel Basquiat Ferris wheel and Keith Haring carousel is sure to make a compelling backdrop.

Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else.
