Happy Summer Solstice! We'll ease into the season today with warm temperatures, but come tomorrow, prepare for the first official heat wave of the season.

Clouds should burn off by late morning in the coastal areas and highs will reach the mid 70’s, up to 78 for Orange County inland coast, 80 degrees for downtown Los Angeles.

The valleys and inland areas will feel warmer temperatures with highs in the mid 80s to low 90s.

The deserts will face the most heat — 93 degrees in high desert, 106 degrees for Coachella Valley.

Tonight's lows will drop to the 60s, 70s for the low desert.

Heads up readers — with the anticipated spike in temperatures this weekend, a heat advisory is in effect for the Inland Empire valleys and mountains, and an excessive heat watch for the San Gabriel mountains, Highway 14 corridor and Antelope Valley. Both of these advisories start Saturday through Sunday.

Things to do

  • Parks After Dark: If you stay indoors to beat the heat over the next few days, you can enjoy the cool evenings at one of several L.A. parks. The annual Parks After Dark program is back in full swing from now through the end of August. There are special evening events for everyone – from teen pool parties to senior dances at many of the public parks throughout the city.
