Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

A cool and dry day is in store for SoCal and it'll be mostly sunny. However, beware of strong rip currents at the beaches and frost in the valleys this morning.

Quick Facts
    • Today’s weather: Mostly sunny, cool
    • Beaches: Low 60s
    • Mountains/deserts: High 40s, low 50s/55-64
    • Inland: low 60s
    • Warnings and advisories: Beach Hazards, Frost

Temperatures at the beaches and the inland coast won't rise above 63 degrees today. Average temperatures in the valleys and inland areas will also stay in the low 60s. Tonight's lows will again to the upper 30s.

About those advisories

Beach Hazards Statement
Beachgoers and surfers should be cautious heading to open waters today. Dangerous rip currents will affect L.A. and Ventura county beaches this morning and forecasts show a high tide over 6 feet tall at 9 a.m.

Weather forecasters say strong rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to see and large breaking waves can capsize small boats near the shore. Some minor coastal flooding could result during the morning high tide.

Frost Advisory
Some portions of SoCal are waking up to frost this morning as temperatures dropped to the low 30s. A frost advisory has been issued for Santa Clarita Valley, the Western San Fernando Valley — including Agoura Hills and Calabasas — and Ventura County valleys as temperatures overnight dropped to as low as 31 degrees. Temperatures will stay in the low 30s until 9 a.m. Over in the Inland Empire, temperatures have also dropped to the low 30s until 8 a.m.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair.
