High winds and high surf

High winds will continue to affect the western region of the Southland today. Along the 5 Freeway corridor, northwest winds will reach speeds of up to 40 mph, but some gusts could reach up to 70 mph — that also applies for Ventura County mountains.

In the San Fernando Valley, as well as the Santa Monica and Santa Susana mountains, expect some wind gusts to reach up to 55 mph.

Ventura County beaches remain under a high surf advisory. Forecasters are predicting dangerous rip currents and large breaking waves of 4 to 8 feet tomorrow, increasing to 7 to 10 feet late tomorrow night, particularly west-facing beaches such as near the Ventura pier and Channel Islands Harbor.

Freeze warnings
Calabasas and Agoura Hills could get down to 33 tonight or early tomorrow, and are the latest cities to be added to a Frost Advisory issued by the National Weather Service.

Also, a freeze warning has been added for the Ojai Valley tonight where the coming low temperatures may be down to 31 degrees.

Weekend forecast

The National Weather Service says another unsettled weather pattern is in store for the Southland. Meteorologist Miguel Miller expects a chance of more precipitation through Sunday.

"That next storm that's going to bring the really light rain to the lowlands and really light snow to the mountains," Miller said. "That's going to bring quite a lot of wind, especially to the mountains and deserts, but also to the coastal waters and the immediate coast."

There's a 20% chance of scattered showers, along with snow as low as 3,000 feet, mainly on the northern slopes of the mountains.
