Weekend Warmup Before Rain Storm Next Week

Happy Friday. We're in for a weather pattern swing as weekend temperatures into early next week will be much warmer before another rain event comes to the Southland as early as Thursday.
-
- Today’s weather: Sunny, warm
- Beaches: 68-69
- Mountains: 50s/60-73
- Inland: 70s
- Warnings and advisories: High surf
Average temperatures at the beaches today will reach up to 69 degrees — more inland, highs will reach up to 73 degrees with lots of sunshine.
For the weekend, we're looking at highs in the mid to upper 70s with nighttime lows in the lower 50s, upper 40s. Now is the best time to go on hikes or even take a stroll in Griffith Park where hidden discoveries await.
Ventura County beaches will see more high surf today until 4 p.m. — large breaking waves of 5 to 8 feet and local sets up to 10 feet is possible during high tide.
Look ahead
There's talk of rain in the forecast for next Thursday and weather forecasters are seeing an atmospheric event heading to California.
It's still not certain if it will come to the Southland, but if the jet stream happens to come to SoCal, you should be prepared for some flooding. Now's the time to clear those gutters, check your tires, and grab sandbags from your local fire station.

Things to do
If your social calendar has an opening this weekend, consider this paint event:
- Art Class: BYOB Wine and Create: Experience the depth of a full moon meditation. Recharge and open yourself up to deep spiritual experiences. As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
