Your SoCal Weather Report For Wednesday, Jan 17: Breezy And Cloudy As A Storm Approaches The Weekend

Happy Wednesday! In today's forecast it will be a few degrees cooler with mostly cloudy skies and some breezy winds as a storm system moves into the Southland this weekend.
-
- Today’s weather: Mostly cloudy, breezy
- Beaches: 62
- Mountains/deserts: 50s/64-71
- Inland: 60s
- Warnings and advisories: Air Quality Alert
For the coastal areas, average temperatures will top out at 62 degrees, including the inland coast.
The northern Coachella Valley below the San Gorgonio Pass will see some high wind gusts up to 55 mph this afternoon.
More inland, average temperatures have dropped to the mid to low 60s.
Rain and some snow incoming
Today's drop in temperatures is due to a storm system that's already started moving into Santa Barbara and San Diego counties bringing light rain for those areas this evening.
But the rain for L.A, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties won't hit until Friday night at the earliest.
The latest forecast models haven't changed much, still showing that on Friday night there's a 20% chance of rain for the valleys and between a quarter to half an inch of rainfall is expected.
There'll be a small break before light-to-moderate rainfall comes all day Sunday through Monday morning, producing up to 2 inches of rainfall.
Average temperatures will be in the lower 60s, with nighttime lows in the mid to upper 40s. Expect cloudy and gray skies for the weekend.
Snow levels will drop to 7,000 feet on Sunday.
About those advisories
Air quality officials have issued a no burn alert for today for L.A., Riverside, San Bernardino and Orange counties. With high air pollution in today's forecast, residents are asked not to burn wood outdoors or indoors, even in fireplaces.
This day in history
On this day in 1994, the Northridge Earthquake rattled L.A. county at 4:31 a.m.
Things to do
All this cool and cloudy weather makes for a perfect indoor excursion or perhaps the right weather to watch a murder mystery come to life on stage...
'The Mysterious Affair At Styles': The adaptation of Agatha Christie’s debut novel makes its way to the stage at the Long Beach Playhouse. The iconic detective Hercule Poirot investigates a murder at a country estate as he unravels the motives of an enigmatic husband, a cash-strapped stepson, a doctor expert in poison, and the rest of the dubious household.
