Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Today will be the coolest day of the week during the day as a warming trend is in store, but come nightfall expect cooler temperatures.

Quick Facts
    • Today’s weather: partly cloudy, warm
    • Beaches: low 70s
    • Mountains/deserts: 60s-70s/62-72
    • Inland: low 70s
    • Warnings and advisories: None

In the morning, low clouds will make you think that it will be a cool day, but don't be fooled! Afternoon sunshine and warm temperatures will follow.

Average temperatures along the beaches will be in the low 70s, down to 68 in Huntington Beach. In downtown Los Angeles expect a high of 74 degrees.

Over in the valleys, the average temperatures will range in the low to mid 70s, up to 75 in the warmest areas. Inland, expect a high of 73 in Anaheim and 75 degrees for Riverside and San Bernardino.

Nighttime lows will drop to the low 50s, and the 30s for the Antelope Valley.

Taking a look ahead: Temperatures will rise daily for the rest of the week for a warming trend. And the National Weather Service says that come Wednesday, windy gusts will hit the Inland Empire.

This day in history

On this day in 2022, an atmospheric river hit SoCal, prompting urban flooding and swift water rescues in Ontario and Anaheim.

Things to do

Head out for a night of singing and good storytelling:

  • Handel's MessCider Sing-Along: The Pacific Opera Project (POP) takes over the brewery for a night of beer and baroque. POP stars Janet Todd, Erin Alford, Jon Lee Keenan, Ben Lowe and Zach Neufeld lead the audience in Handel's "Messiah." Download the score and sing along or just hang out and watch. The night also includes games and prizes. Tickets include admission and one cider. Additional beverages and food are available for purchase. 21+.
  • The LA GrandSLAM Championship: The Moth's GrandSLAM brings back 10 LA StorySLAM winners to battle for the title of Los Angeles storytelling champion. They'll tell tales with the theme, "Out on a Limb," sharing tales about taking chances, shots in the dark, and going straight for the high dive. The stories are heartbreaking, hilarious, and all the emotions in between.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
