Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Quick Facts
    • Today’s weather: Warm, sunny
    • Beaches: 80 high, 66 low
    • Mountains: 85 high, 70 low
    • Inland: 93 high, 65 low

Happy Monday! It's going to be a sunny and warm start to the week today and tomorrow due to a high pressure system expanding into the region. Marine layer cloud coverage will be greatly reduced today and Tuesday, but will increase in the latter half of the week.

Highs from the beaches to downtown Los Angeles will be in the 80s to around 90. In the San Gabriel Valley, temps will range from the upper 80s to the mid 90s. Temperatures will rise in the San Fernando Valley to between 93 and 100 hundred degrees. Meanwhile, it'll be a similar story in the Santa Clarita Valley. The Antelope Valley could reach as high as 102 degrees.

Tomorrow is supposed to be the hottest day of the next seven days, followed by a noticeable cooling trend on Wednesday. Most areas will be 3 to 6 degrees cooler compared to Tuesday.

Local north to south offshore pressure gradients will move across Santa Barbara County. This offshore gradient should be strong enough tonight and Tuesday to generate advisory level "sundowner" winds across the southwest portion of the county.

This day in history

On this day in 1983, the lowest maximum temperature on record of 74 degrees in Riverside remarkably occurred on the same day as the highest minimum temperature of 70 degrees.

Things to do

It's the perfect weather for a ball game. Here's a local game to check out if you have the time:

  • Hello Kitty Night: Dodger Stadium1000 Vin Scully Ave., Elysian Park — Hot off the news that Hello Kitty is not in fact a cat, but a little girl from London, the icon herself returns to Dodger Stadium to throw out the first pitch as the Dodgers take on the Seattle Mariners. Fans will receive a Hello Kitty 50th Dodgers Plush and Paper Crown giveaway item to celebrate her birthday (but get there early!).

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
