Topline:

Isolated thunderstorms have dropped more than an inch of rain in the San Bernardino and eastern San Gabriel Mountains, prompting the National Weather Service to issue flash flood warnings for mountain and high desert communities.

Fire risk: Dry lightning is a possibility, meaning we could see fire starts in the mountain and foothill areas.

The timeline: A low pressure system allowed moisture to move up from the south. Things should calm down by Friday night but could pick back up again for a bit on Saturday. The weather should return to normal by the afternoon.

Monsoon season: It's typical for L.A. to catch the edge of these types of storms during this time of year. Monsoon season will wrap up by September, just in time for the Santa Ana winds to kick off our proper fire season.
