Red flag warning starting Monday as fire weather and Santa Anas return
Topline:
As dry weather and a bout of Santa Ana winds come to Southern California, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning due to an elevated risk of fire weather conditions from Monday until Wednesday.
Red Flag Warning: These stronger Santa Anas could bring wind gusts from 45 to 70 mph from Monday to Wednesday with humidity in the single digits, according to the NWS.
Where the warning is in effect: The mountainous areas of Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties will all fall under the warning. Most of the urban areas in Los Angeles and Orange counties are not included in the warning.
How to stay safe: As always, exercise extreme caution with any ignition sources if you're in a fire-prone area, especially one with dry grasses that could spread into wildfires. Report any smoke or fire you see to local authorities.
Go deeper: Camarillo and Palm Springs tied for the hottest place in the country on Friday. This caps off what's expected to be the hottest year on record, which would break the record set last year.
