Colder weather and high tides this weekend

-
- Today’s weather: Partly cloudy morning, then sunny this afternoon
- Beaches: mid 60s
- Mountains: 50-60s
- Inland: 50-60s
- Warnings and advisories: High surf, wind, and winter weather advisories
Good morning and happy Friday! Today will be much colder than Thursday and we're looking at a low chance of showers this morning.
Along the coast, expect highs in the lower 60s for L.A., Ventura, and Orange county beaches. In Ventura, there's a high surf advisory in effect until 12 p.m. Saturday. That means large waves up to 7 feet are expected.
Inland, we'll see highs in the upper 50s to low 60s. Temperatures in the high desert will reach the lower 50s, whereas in the low desert it could reach into the low 70s.
Wind advisory
There's a wind advisory in effect for Los Angeles and Ventura county coasts, including downtown L.A., western Antelope Valley, and the 5 Freeway corridor today from noon to 8 p.m.
Fire weather outlook
Gusty Santa Ana winds are expected to return to the Southland next week.
The National Weather Service is warning of critical fire weather conditions across valleys and mountains from Tuesday into Thursday.
Forecasters say the winds should be weaker and not as widespread as last week’s wind event that escalated the Mountain Fire in Ventura County.
Winter weather advisory
While most of the region will see sunny skies today, the San Bernardino and Riverside county mountains are under a winter weather advisory until 10 p.m. Up to 4 inches of snow are forecasted to hit the ground in Big Bear, Wrightwood, and Running Springs.
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
