  • Missed out on the Tchaikovsky last week? No worries, we've got another major piano concerto and a Tchaikovsky piece this week to the Bowl. Yuja Wang returns to the Bowl this Tuesday for a performance of Rachmaninoff's 3rd Piano Concerto.
  • Shark Week distends its mighty jaw and gobbles up the Discovery Channel beginning Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. with a Shark Week series of bloody spectacular sea shows.
  • Get Out! And stay out. There's so much to do today! Get your fill of all things spicy, do all your shopping for the next six months and rock out for free by the water.
  • Crowds. Sun. Parties. Crazy promotional programs. Strange outfits. Studios and indie scenes. These are the ingredients for events in Hollywood, but they also came together for this year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego.
  • The new play at the Theatre@Boston Court, Steve Yockey's Heavier Than…, is a retelling of the old Greek myth of the minotaur in his labyrinth, but this time from the creature's point of view. It's a professionally done show with a strong cast and a distinctive look, but the play lacks ambition. It's enjoyable while it's going on, but not particularly memorable upon leaving the theatre--a solid base hit, but no home-run.
  • Get Out! This Saturday you can tempt fate in a variety of extremely exciting ways. See what's up (or upside down) at the X-Games, pilgrimage to the Coliseum for LA Rising with Rage Against the Machine and Muse or watch a Neanderthal man battle a frozen dinosaur that comes back to life and attacks an island. Choose wisely.
  • LA resident Mark Oliver Everett -- perhaps familiar to you as E out of the EELS -- is calling me from the middle of Pennsylvania, most of the way through an extensive world tour, in the midst of a serious jones...
  • We like cowboys, we like aliens, but we're having trouble rounding up excitement for Cowboys & Aliens. The credits pack a lot of heat, but where's the cattle?
  • Tomorrow afternoon, 70 girl musicians will take the stage at the Echoplex to show off their musical prowess after attending the second annual Rock n’ Roll Camp For Girls in LA. Over the past few days, campers aged 8 to 17 have picked up instruments and learned to rock without fear. Campers learn an instrument, form a band, write a song, and cap it off with a rock-fueled showcase for the public.
  • We've found an interesting array of events across the city tonight. There's an art opening featuring the comic book hero-inspired art of Anthony Lister in Hollywood, and on the Westside, Gallery1988 hosts a reception for an art show inspired by the iconic Pee-Wee Herman. Our pick is an interesting documentary that examines the press-politico relationship through the tragic story of Budd Dwyer. Read on for all the details.
