  • There's something about 9th Symphonies that resonate with listeners (Beethoven, Dvorak, Bruckner, Schubert), and if you have yet to experience it for yourself, go to the OC Performing Arts Center this weekend for some Mahler.
  • Get out so you can consider chicano culture's role in the counterculture, listen to local authors or jam to some Bach (and Bach-inspired pieces).
  • Conductors and performers curse the skies, glower and sometimes even halt the performance when helicopters pass over the Hollywood Bowl. Now they're throwing their support behind a federal bill that would restrict low-flying helicopters.
  • The life and achievements of Marie Curie are certainly worthy subject matter for a play: her position as a pioneer in an otherwise male-dominated scientific establishment and her discovery of radium are full of theatrical possibility. • Get out! Get up! Visit Norton Simon and explore Dennis Hopper's legacy is on California art or go to one of (at least) six museums that are offering admission this weekend and a ceramic show.

  • When you think of Sasha Grey, a number of things might come to mind: violent sex. Playing a prostitute for Steven Soderbergh. Going buck naked on "Entourage." But if you don't immediately conjure up an image of her reading a storybook to a group of first-graders, you will now. TMZ reports that Grey was brought in to Emerson Elementary School in Compton on November 2 as part of the Read Across America program...
