  • The leader of Scientology enjoys taping the private "auditing" sessions of its celebrity members including Tom Cruise and watching them just for fun, according to a new report in Vanity Fair. Former Scientologists who worked closely with David Miscavige tell the magazine that the leader of Scientology used to watch Cruise's private auditing sessions just for their own personal entertainment.
  • Prosecutors have decided to charge Amanda Bynes with not one but two hit-and-runs, after they took a look at one incident in April and another one last month. Bynes is accused of crashing into cars and fleeing the scene twice.
  • In other parts of the country (I'm looking at you, New York), there seems to be a gross misunderstanding about the way Angelenos live. The myth goes something like this: We wake up at 11:00 a.m., throw on some oversized sunglasses and head to an audition. • Charles Manson is known for a lot of things. Grotesque violence, for instance. Co-opting young minds. But a lesser known fact is that the criminal mastermind was also a musician. And now, a local record producer has released an album featuring some of Manson's songs.
  • Bob Barker asked eager audience members to "come on down" to contestant row on TV's "The Price is Right" for 35 years, but the 88-year-old host was not invited to participate in the show's 40th anniversary episode.
  • Labor Day has come and will soon be gone, but there are still plenty of ways to make your face smile with laughter this week. A bunch of great indie stand up shows are bringing the heat, and the outlying Improvs (Brea, Ontario and Irvine) must be celebrating early 2000's week, judging by the stand ups they're having out.
  • If you're not laboring today, we found a few options for you to check out around LA. Kitten begins its residency at the Bootleg Bar, which also inaugurates a local craft fair tonight; free admission at LACMA today; a podcast taping tonight with comedians Greg Behrendt, Dave Anthony and Bill Burr; and provocative comedies screen at Cinefamily. Read on for all the details.
  • Duncan, known for his breakout role in "The Green Mile," "never fully recovered" after his July 13 heart attack.
  • Hey everyone, today is Charlie Sheen's birthday! And he's still winning his way through life: his new show "Anger Management" was recently picked up for another 90 episodes, according to On The Red Carpet, and nobody really likes Ashton Kutcher in "Two and a Half Men."
  • This week's edition of Overheard in L.A. features bits of overheard conversation from FYF Fest, public transportation and coffee shops. Our Overheard in L.A. feature relies on you to send us the strange conversations you overhear in this city.
