Pencil This In: Liberal Drinking and Chinese Dance
DANCE
Los Angeles DPA (Divine Performing Arts) Chinese New Year Spectacular takes to the stage tonight through Jan. 4 at the Pasadena Civic Center. The classical Chinese dance show is a "wondrous story of heavenly realms, enchanting dreams, and the classic struggle between good and evil, the show s pageantry evokes themes of virtue, compassion, and courage." The show begins at 8 pm. Tickets are $35-$188.
LAUGHS
It's Open Mic night at The Laugh Factory on the Sunset Strip at 6:30 pm. If you think you have a funny bone, signups are at 5 pm. The first 10-15 comedians return at 6:30 to perform a three-minute routine (G-rated only!) in front of the owner and/or Laugh Factory Staff.
FILM
The Beverly Hills Hi-Def Film Fest continues today at the Fine Arts Theatre. This afternoon's lineup includes the feature Favorite Son by Howard Libov and a shorts program at 5 pm. Tonight's features include Ryan Humphries' Sounds at 7:30 and Paul Davids' Jesus in India at 10 pm.
DRINK
The Pasadena chapter of Drinking Liberally is holds court every Tuesday, including tonight, at 7:30 pm at Madeline's Wine Bistro on Green Street in Pasadena. Drinking Liberally "gives like-minded, left-leaning individuals a place to talk politics. You don't need to be a policy expert and this isn't a book club - just come and learn from peers, trade jokes, vent frustration and hang out in an environment where it's not taboo to talk politics."
