Pencil This In: A Ghost Puppet Film, The Bloggess and Soleil Moon Frye in Conversation and a Mindshare Salon

Here are our picks for things to do in LA tonight: Lucha VaVOOM's side project The Heino! Happy Hour and burlesque show is at El Cid; The Bloggess is the guest of honor at Writer's Bloc; T.M. Wolf reads from his novel, Sound; Mindshare LA presents an evening of discussion on "play"; and NerdMelt offers a sneak peek of a Victorian Ghost Story puppet film. Read on for all the details.

BURLESQUE
Tonight, Lucha VaVOOM presents The Heino! Happy Hourat El Cid. It’s an evening of comedy, music, burlesque and “astounding feats of Germanic humour.” Dinner and drinks will be served at 8 pm and the show “Springbreak For Heino” starts at 9 pm featuring Heino (the Voice of Germany), comedians Paul Greenberg (Reno 911, Growing Up Brady) and Jackie Harris, dirty Frenchman Paul LaGloire and Queen of Burlesque Lucy Fur. The show also features Tanzin’ Schlampes (the slutty dancers). $15.

LIT TALK
Writers Bloc hosts Jenny Lawson,The Bloggess to discuss her new book Let’s Pretend This Never Happened, a mostly true memoir of her unconventional upbringing. Her father was a taxidermist, who worked with blood and guts from the house; and she spent some of her professional life in Human Resources, which you know is great fodder for stories. She’ll be interviewed by actor, director and fellow blogger Soleil Moon Frye. 7:30 pm. At the Writers Guild Theater, 135 South Doheny Drive, Beverly Hills. Tickets, $20.

SOUND READING
PEN Center USA presents T.M. Wolf who’ll read from his new novel, Sound. It’s a book that’s built on “musical notation and modeled after hip-hop beats.” It’s in essence a love story about a graduate student who drops out of school to go home to the Jersey shore, where all is not what he remembers it to be. Musical performance by Brian Elerding and Kate Siegel.

MUSIC
PJ Morton, current keyboard player for Maroon 5, busts a solo move tonight at the House of Blues. He released his Following My First Mind EP last month with Adam Levine on backing vocals. in the lead track, “Heavy.” Show at 7:30 pm. Tickets: $25.

MINDSHARE SALON
Mindshare LA presents and evening focused on “play” tonight at the Mezz Bar in the Alexandria Hotel—with a Rubik’s Cube Party to boot The evening begins at 7 pm with happy hour and a full taco bar by the Taco Project. Presentations start at 8:30 pm with Lucien Vattel, founder, GameDesk, discussing Lets PLAY! The Education Revolution; Billy Jensen, VP & GM, BUZZMEDIA, on Too High, Too Fast, Too Fun Our Immersive Future; and Brent Bushnell, entrepreneur and game developer. Stay for the art, games and entertainment at 9:30 pm. Oh and what’s a Rubik’s Cube party? Simple. Come dressed in many colors and leave in one—you win. Tickets: $30 at the door.
