Pencil This In: Leonard Cohen at the Isle of Wright, Museum of Kitsch Closing Karaoke Night

Good kitsch is hard to find these days. But not at Ghettogloss tonight because it’s the Allee Willis Museum of Kitsch Closing Karaoke Night from 7-11 pm. On display are hundreds of artifacts from her personal kitsch collection. There’s going to be a karaoke sing-off of Allee's classic Earth Wind & Fire hit, "September," at the party ("Do you remember...the 21st night of September...?") plus other surprises.
PERFORMANCE
Preston Maxley, founder of the San Fernando Valley Life Studies Institute presents Art Explained! tonight at Sacred Fools, where Dr. Maxley (self-accredited) shares his groundbreaking insights into Art and Life, and the Institute's unique approach to both. We don’t know much more about this new-agey spoof except that other SFVLSI presentations have included "Progressive Chain Bowling," "Chicken City" and "The Compound Dog." The show begins at 8 pm tonight and tickets are $15.
FILM
Amoeba Music continues its Monday movie series tonight at Space15Twenty with Leonard Cohen - Live at the Isle of Wight Festival (1970). This previously unreleased concert film that captures Leonard Cohen at festival. Directed by Academy Award-winner Murray Lerner, the DVD will be released by Sony Pictures in October. The screening is free.

Writer’s Bloc presents historian John Buntin, author of the nonfiction book L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America's Most Seductive City. He writes about the relationship between Jewish mobster Mickey Cohen and LAPD Chief William Parker in the 1950's. He’ll be in discussion with outgoing LAPD Chief William Bratton tonight at 7:30 pm at the Writer’s Guild Theatre in Beverly Hills. Tickets are $20.
