Comics and the Munchie Machine

Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your tax-deductible donation now.

Not counting Apple product releases, lately nothing makes Angelenos geek out more than comic books and food trucks. Tomorrow, the Comics Con Carne event at Golden Apple on Melrose combines the two for an ultra-cool geek fest. Comic book creators, including up-and-coming indie artists Scott Koblish, Nico Colaleo and Carly Mizzou, will be sketching and talking about their art, while dazzling the crowd with their knowledge of obscure comic book trivia. Art and comics will be for sale, too. The Munchie Machine will roll up to feed the masses, and tunes will be spun by Zipp Zyklon and Nick the Ring.

Curated by Mizzou, this is the first in (hopefully) a monthly series of comic book artists and food trucks. Admission is free.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
