  • Rally by unions and pols taking place Monday
Jimmy Kimmel speaks onstage while hosting the 96th Annual Academy Awards in March 2024. Labor unions, free speech groups and fellow entertainers are rallying around him after ABC suspended his late-night show on Wednesday.

    Topline:

Supporters of suspended late night host Jimmy Kimmel will gather in Hollywood Monday morning to defend the right to free speech and against recent FCC actions.

Why now: Democratic congress members including Laura Friedman (CA-30), Judy Chu (CA-28) and Brad Sherman (CA-32) will join members of the Writers Guild of America, Teamsters, IATSE and other unions to support the ousted talk show host.

The group will rally outside of the Dolby Theatre, across the street from where Kimmel's show is taped, to speak out against what they character as FCC intimidation.

Backstory: Last Thursday, more than 100 protesters demonstrated in front of the Disney headquarters in Burbank, a day after Jimmy Kimmel Live! was indefinitely pulled from the air over comments about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

    Where and when:

    Dolby Theatre

    6801 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles

    Monday, Sept. 22, starting at 11 a.m.
