Tony Scott Suicide: Coroner Issues Final Report
At long last, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office has released their official findings in the autopsy of director Tony Scott, who jumped to his death in August from the Vincent Thomas Bridge.
Scott, 68, had a "therapeutic" amount of an anti-depressant drug in his system, as well as a sleep aid. The coroner's report ultimately puts to rest any of the early rumors, denied by Scott's wife, that the director was suffering from brain cancer, as there is no mention of the disease in the coroner's findings. Scott's cause of death is "multiple blunt force injuries" and "drowning," and the manner of death "suicide."
While cause is now clearly attributed, motive remains uncertain.
The following is the text provided in an email release by the coroner's office:
The Los Angeles County Department of Coroner conducted an autopsy on the body of Anthony David Scott, age 68, on August 20, 2012. The final cause of death has been determined to be:
MULTIPLE BLUNT FORCE INJURIES
OTHER SIGNIFICANT CONDITIONS: DROWNING
HOW INJURY OCCURRED: JUMPED FROM BRIDGE INTO OCEAN
MANNER OF DEATH: SUICIDE
TOXICOLOGY: A therapeutic level of Mirtazipine (Remeron) which is an anti-depressant and zopiclone (Lunesta), a sleep-aid.
It is anticipated that the final Coroner report will be available for release within two weeks.
