2011 TED Prize Winner JR Kicks Off His Wish at Phantom Galleries
The TED Conference is taking place this week in Long Beach and at 5pm the event culminates with the announcement of the 2011 TED Prize Winner's wish. This year's prize winner is JR, a French street artist whose series of tightly-cropped black-and-white portraits, "The Wrinkles of the City," has been appearing across Los Angeles in recent weeks (Check out our JR photoessay here).
The TED Prize includes $100,000 but more importantly the support and cheerleading of the entire TED community as the prizewinner pursues his or her specific wish to make the world a better place. We'll find out at 5pm exactly what JR's wish is (watch it live here). What we do know is that he'll kick off his wish tomorrow at Phantom Galleries in Long Beach and you're invited (Thursday noon-7pm, Friday 9am-7pm).
