Foo Fighters @ Spaceland: The Twitter Journey Continues!
I never want to see the Foo Fighters again*
*This is not a true statement. However, after last night’s show at Spaceland (Yes, it was still Spaceland, for one final night) I could honestly go a while with out seeing them again. Not because it was a bad show, not because I have seen them three times in a week, but rather it was just that good.
In 1995, Club Spaceland opened its doors with a small unheard of band opening for local hero Beck. That band was the Foo Fighters. 16 years, millions of albums sold and millions of fans later, that no longer small and no longer unheard of band returned to close out the venue. From this day forward Club Spaceland is officially no more, replaced by the Satellite. Yes, the building, the stage, the (former) smoking room and maybe even the curtain will still be there and even feel the same but it will never be the same as on this night, the circle was closed. And what a fitting way to close it, with one of the bigger bands Spaceland has been the launching pad for.
On the same day it leaked that the Foos may be one of the headliners for Lollapalooza, the band, continuing their Twitter surprise tour of Los Angeles, played to a sold out room of about 200 people at Spaceland, a far cry from the more than 80,000 that will watch them this summer. I won't expand much on the show as most of that was expressed in in ourreview of the show at the Dragonfly last Friday. It has to be emphasized again that the Foos once again proved that these surprise shows are more than just a publicity stunt. This show was everything a rock and roll should be, hot, sweaty and loud. There truly was no better way for the circle to be closed than in the massive, sweaty sing-a-long that was the Foo Fighters at Spaceland Tuesday night.
