With our free press under threat and federal funding for public media gone, your support matters more than ever. Help keep the LAist newsroom strong, become a monthly member or increase your support today .

Prince has some events lined up for the people of Los Angeles some time around March 24th.

At least that's what this message written by the Purple One, passed along to us by Prince's people, suggests. As you'll see, not only does Prince write his own rules but he also seems to write in his own 15 year-old girl on a Sidekick text message-like language:

Calling all Purpleheadz: ready 2 get plugged in? From the 24th on, there will b a slew of NPG-related events happening around electric LAlaland.. we don't want 2 give away all the details yet, but b prepared 2 get yo groove on, numerous ways 4 numerous days. We know $ is tite but the adventures will b worth ur while! Stay 2ned 2 this outtaspacestation..

No word on what these "NPG-related events" will be, stay tuned (or should we say "stay 2ned").

LA Weekly is guessing Prince may be planning a secret in-store performance at the Target on La Brea but they say "that's idle speculation."

If Prince really wants to shock people, he'll start a show on time. That would really make his fans go crazy.

Update: Dr. Funkenberry.com reports, and we have confirmed, that Prince will be appearing on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno three consecutive nights - March 25th, 26th, and 27th.

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.

Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
