Kidrockers w/ The Afternoons & The Deadly Syndrome @ The Echo, 10/12/08
Last Sunday was the inaugural edition of Kidrockers, hosted by comedians Patton Oswalt (MySpace) and Seth Herzog (MySpace), with performances by locals The Afternoons (MySpace) and The Deadly Syndrome (MySpace).
As Melissa Moore described the event in her preview:
It was only a matter of time before hipster boys and girls grew up to have boys and girls of their own, and were left with the dilemma of how to reconcile a live music obsession with a dearth of available babysitters. Presto chango diapero! Kidrockers to your rescue! Beg, borrow, or reproduce - all you need is a little one and a sense of adventure to enjoy a family-friendly afternoon of music (not necessarily kid-specific jams)... This ain't The Wiggles, my friend.
And Duke at You Set the Scene simply described it as "...a nice alternative to Radio Disney and Hot Topic."
True to Kidrockers' mantra of bringing the best of the local indie music scene to families, there were not only Twister mats and cushions lining the floor, but question-and-answer sessions with the comedians and bands, and raffle giveaways. In addition, the drummers performed with brushes instead of sticks to accomodate the little ones, who were repeatedly encouraged to bring out their inner Guitar Heroes onstage.
The plan by organizers Beth Lorge and Hannah Cooper is to make Kidrockers a monthly event, with the next edition scheduled for November 17th 30th at The Echo with artists TBA (and a big name already reportedly confirmed for a future installment).
