Those of you who saw Jack and Meg at the Tower Records - whoops, we mean the Icky Thump Records in-store concert earlier this summer, you might be the only people in LA who will get to see the duo this year in the Southland.
According to an email that was just sent out by the band's email team, the tour has been ixnayed.
The White Stripes announced today that they are canceling their forthcoming tour due to health issues. Meg White is suffering from acute anxiety and is unable to travel at this time.Very sad to hear that this is happening. Especially since we can't recall a concert at the Forum featuring just one guitarist and one drummer. It would have been history, instead it's just history. The White Stripes sincerely apologize to their fans.
"We hate to let people down and are very sorry."Fans can obtain refunds for their tickets at point of purchase.

Huh. Funny thing is, I bought tix to the Stripes and Amy Winehouse at the Wiltern on the same day a few months ago. What a waste of time that was.
this is why ticket sales originators need to better control the flow of tickets to prevent them from being bought en masse by brokers and scalpers. I was unfortunate to not get in on the first 12 seconds of sales, so I had to resort to paying $200 on a ticket site and get them from a broker. Now I'm just screwed out of $30 in inflated shipping costs, $20 in fees, and probably all but the face ticket prices (which will leave me about $150 in the hole). $150 for... nothing. Fun.
Learned a lesson though. If ticketmaster is sold out, I don't go.
This REAAALY fucking sucks. I bought San Diego tickets since I loved the venue. Then the venue was changed to Coors Ampitheatre. Okaaay, whatever, now I'm basically driving two hours for nothing, but fine. And now they completely cancel, and I can't even return the tickets because the drive down will equal whatever I get in return, so I just have to eat the fifty bucks. Ugh. At least Wolf Parade is in two days.
thats a tough lesson #2, and im very sorry to hear it.
i will give you a tip though. as someone who goes to at least a show a week and sometimes more than that, a guy with $120 can get into
any
show.
i hate ticketmaster so much that on my tombstone all i want it to say is
fuck ticketmaster
people will say, hey wheres tony pierce's grave, i wanna piss on it, and people will answer, "its the one that only says 'fuck ticketmaster' on it.
because of the frenzy that on-sale dates create, and because shows are usually months in advance of having to buy tickets, people usually buy more tickets than they need.
at every show there are groups of 3's who have one extra because someone canceled at the last minute, or they never were able to get it together and find that fourth person.
that group will be more than happy to take face value or below.
likewise, sometimes there are industry people, other artists, the press, even bloggers who go to so many shows that we are happy to just hand our extra free ticket to someone who looks like they will appreciate it.
the miracle ticket is the greatest ticket of all. to give or receive.
now obviously getting a pair of tickets at the door, and/or doing it infront of a date adds to the likelihood of failing at this mission,
but if at the last minute you see some band in Tonight in Rock in LA that you really wanna see, and you know its a sold out show, or could be sold out, i say go anyway and bring 40 bucks or 60 bucks, or if its someone huge, 120.
you might be pleasantly surprised.
You know what the difference between me and Meg White and Owen Wilson and all those other celebrities is? I don't get to use fancy terms like "exhaustion" and "anxiety" when I decide become a sad, pathetic junkie who's too fucked up to function in society. And I don't have a fat bank account to cushion my frequent trips to rehab.
Try raising a couple of kids on minimum wage as a single parent. That's anxiety. Living a rock star life, selling a gazillion records, traveling around the world and never having to work a shitty 9-to-5 job for the rest of your life is NOT ANXIETY!
Let's call a spade a spade. Meg White's "anxiety problem" is a euphemistic way of saying drug addiction.
Jack White is downright brilliant, but it's tough to pull off a one-man band at big venues -- not too mention @ the sanctuary formerly known as the Rambis Forum.
Meg White is to drumming as Anthony Keidis is to singing. Two of the luckiest people in rock 'n' roll.
To whoever wrote comment #5:
Some people do indeed use terms like "exhaustion" or "anxiety" as covers—-or, worse, as excuses—-for addictions or other behavioural problems that they don’t want to deal with. (Your example of Amy Winehouse is an apt one, I think.)
However, this isn’t always the case.
“Anxiety” doesn’t always mean “worrying about how you’re going to pay the bills”. “Anxiety” and “panic attacks” can indeed be symptoms of a serious mental disorder. In this case, its not about being a little nervous. Its about a paralyzing, crushing fear that can literally keep you from getting out of bed in the morning, from washing yourself, from working, from eating, from sleeping...all those things that you take for granted as a functional human being. Its indescribable, and usually irrational, but its as real to you as the ground you stand on.
I pray that this is not, in fact, what is happening to Meg White. If it is, I hope that she is getting help (and there is help available), because it’s the kind of thing that can eat her alive.
If you’ve never seen this kind of disorder at work, its all too easy to just write it off as "drug addiction" or “spoiled celebrity syndrome”.
Of course, you may well be right. Meg White may very well be a drug addict (she wouldn't be the first musician to go down that road, after all). But unless you have evidence of that, you may want to withhold such harsh judgements. I know that you wouldn't want people making judgements like that about you if you were struggling to just get through the day.
Believe me, anxiety disorders aren't some made-up thing that only happen to celebrites and socialites. They're very real, and they affect millions of people who aren’t drummers for rock bands. I’ve seen the damage they can do, up close and personal, and I promise you that it is awful beyond your worst nightmares.
I hope that you, whoever you are, never have to sit and watch mental illness torture and destroy someone you love. I have had to, and as angry as your comments have made me, I wouldn’t wish the pain on you or anyone.
Here’s hoping that Meg gets help, whatever it is that's ailing her.
Peace.
Small correction to my earlier post (#8): it was not post #5 that mentioned Amy Winehouse cancelling a show. That was an earlier post. My mistake.
Peace.
It says on the ticketmaster website that the Forum show is still on. (as well on The Forums page)
Anyone know for sure?
The Forum probably just hasn't got around to making it "official" yet. Other US tour dates on that same Ticketmaster page are listed as cancelled.
Sucks that this happened. Sucks wangs, in fact. Biiiiiiig, enormous wangs.
what did i say earlier about Ticketmaster?
and why would you ask us if we were *sure* when we made this post and wrote that headline?
did it seem like we were guessing about this cancellation?
Is her anxiety also responsible for the fact that she is the absolute worst fucking drummer EVER?
1) Update: the Stripes have cancelled the tour for the rest of the year. This includes the dates that were scheduled for the UK after the US tour. There was some speculation that they might go ahead with the UK tour if the dust settled a bit, but that ain't happening.
Looks like the Icky Thump tour is done, over, finito.
2) And for Tony: let me share in your desire to see Ticketmaster set adrift on a burning barge. Can someone please tell me what the fuck the difference is between a delivery charge, a convenience charge, AND a "facility fee" (all of which will happily be stuck on to your ticket price, and all in return for service that somehow manages to get shittier and shittier all the time)?
Ticketmaster is the big reason I don't go to club shows any more. Its bad enough when all those made-up charges are tacked on to a $50 or $60 amphitheatre or arena show (like, say, the White Stripes). When its a club show, I've seen the Bullshit Charges add as much as 50% to the total ticket price. I'm not paying that. No fucking way, no fucking how.
End of rant.
WORST EVER, You know they didn't want to cancel, WTF
I think it's really awful that someone has said Meg is being pathetic. If you knew anything about The White Stripes then you may realise that if Meg was struggling with a drug addiction Jack would have probably refused to tour or work with her anyway as he's so against it. Anxiety can be a very serious problem that can make you suffer in physical ways not just mentally. If she had a broken leg then it would be fine, but just because it's a mental problem people start being horrible because they can't see the illnes, and then think they can judge her just because she's famous and 'has is easy'. Everyone struggles, no matter who you are. I hope Meg can get the help and support she needs to over come her anxiety.
