Using Piano Keys To Unlock Sound
(Starts at 7:44)
In 2007, documentary filmmaker Irene Taylor Brodsky released her first movie memoir, “Hear and Now,” focused on her parents who are both deaf. Now, she’s turned the camera on her 11-year-son, Jonas, who is also deaf but hears through a cochlear implant, and endeavors to learn to play "Moonlight Sonata" — a piece composed when Beethoven was coming to terms with his own deafness. John Horn talks with Brodsky about shooting “Moonlight Sonata: Deafness in Three Movements” and framing deafness as a superpower. (The film is currently in select theaters.)

Writer and director Michael Tyburski talks about the inspiration behind the house tuner and making sound a character in his film. ("The Sound of Silence" is in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles.)
