When Antonio Banderas first met Pedro Almodóvar, the filmmaker turned to the then-stage actor and said, “You should make movies because you have a very romantic face.” The two would go on to make many films together, but then parted ways for 22 years. Banderas went to Hollywood and made big studio films such as “The Mask of Zorro,” “Interview With A Vampire” and several “Spy Kids” movies. Almodóvar stayed in Spain and made indie art films. In 2011 they reunited for “The Skin I Live In.” Now they’ve made their most personal film yet. In the autobiographical film, “Pain and Glory,” Banderas plays Almodóvar reassessing his life, his loves and his work. Banderas reveals to John Horn what he learned about film, acting, love and morality from this singular filmmaker.

Plácido Domingo's Final Bow?

The singing legend has resigned as General Director of L.A. Opera. He has been under a cloud since the Associated Press reported in two stories over the past two months about decades of sexual harassment allegedly committed by the singer. Several organizations around the country canceled appearances by Domingo in the wake of the reports. But L.A. Opera kept him onboard while it launched an investigation that was being conducted by an L.A. law firm. John talks with Jessica Gelt, a staff writer for the L.A. Times.
