His Art of Discomfort

(Starts at 7:45)

Noah Baumbach is the writer and director of indie darlings such as “Frances Ha” and “The Squid and the Whale.” His tendency to paint realistic but deeply flawed characters holds true for his latest film, “Marriage Story.” It stars Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson as a young couple struggling with the early stages of their divorce. It marks Baumbach’s fourth collaboration with Driver, but his first with Johansson. John Horn spoke with Baumbach at the Middleburg Film Festival about how he wrote the script based on conversations with friends about marriage and divorce.

An Orchestral Take On Slavery In Mexico

(Starts at 19:45)

The Los Angeles Philharmonic recently premiered “Yanga”, a new work by Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz. The piece was inspired by a slave and abolitionist from the late 1500s in colonial Mexico. The Frame contributor Betto Arcos has the story on Ortiz's history with the orchestra, which now includes four commissions.
