In 2016, RCA Records released "H.E.R. Vol. 1," an EP by an anonymous musician. A brief accompanying statement said: “I can't tell you much about H.E.R. just yet but give it a listen.” Since then, the R&B artist known as H.E.R. has released three more EPs, attracted legions of fans — including former president Barack Obama — and this year is nominated for five Grammy awards, including Best New Artist and Album of the Year. The Frame's John Horn speaks with the 21-year-old singer about her influences and about why audiences are drawn to her anonymous persona.

The streaming service menu gets even bigger
