The Academy Award nominations include only one non-white artist among the 20 nominees in the acting categories. And women are again shut out in the directing category.

The Motion Picture Academy has made great strides in diversifying its membership, but this year's nominations again raise the specter of #OscarsSoWhite. John talks about the nominees with Kyle Buchanan of the New York Times.
