After 45 years as a working actress, seven Academy Award nominations and no wins, it seems more and more clear that if anyone is overdue for an Oscar, it's Glenn Close. Close is nominated this year for her performance in "The Wife," in which she plays Joan Castleman, the second wife of a celebrated novelist about to accept the Nobel Prize in Literature. Close has said the role was deeply personal — her mother revealed in her 80s that she felt as though she hadn't accomplished anything in her life, having cast aside her own dreams in support of her husband's career aspirations. Another family connection is that Close's daughter, Annie Starke, plays the younger Joan in flashback scenes in the film. Close spoke with The Frame about "The Wife" and how she sees roles for older women changing in Hollywood.
