Mimi Leder can relate to Ruth Bader Ginsburg's story

The future Supreme Court Justice endured a lot of sexism in her career, and so has the director of the biopic, "On the Basis of Sex"; writer/director Adam McKay takes on Dick Cheney in the darkly comedic "Vice."

The Early Years of the Notorious RBG

(Starts at 1:00)

It’s been a great year for fans of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. After the success of the documentary “RBG” earlier this year, now comes Mimi Leder’s biopic, “On The Basis of Sex.” The film traces Ginsburg’s early career years and the gender inequalities she overcame in order to achieve success. Director Mimi Leder can sympathize with working in a male-dominated industry. In conversation with The Frame’s John Horn, she shares a few stories of her own.

Adam McKay takes on Dick Cheney in 'Vice'

(Starts at 13:40)

For his new movie, "Vice," writer-director Adam McKay turned his storytelling attention to one of the most elusive figures in modern American politics — Dick Cheney. The former Vice President is played in the film by Christian Bale. In figuring out how to tell the story of Cheney going from drunk college dropout in Wyoming to D.C. powerbroker, McKay found it vital to tell wife Lynne Cheney's story too. (She's played by Amy Adams.) Using his vibrant editing style — as seen in "The Big Short" — intercutting images from popular culture and news, McKay illustrates how Cheney took advantage of a moment in political history to become one of the most powerful men to ever work in the White House.
