Pianist, composer and singer-songwriter Randy Newman started out writing songs for other artists, and not always with success. Frank Sinatra famously rejected all his musical offerings. But 50 years later, his catalogue of film scores and satirical pop songs has achieved legendary status. On Aug. 12, he performs selections from his studio albums at the Hollywood Bowl.

A new campaign seeks to transform Hollywood

In a new open letter, GLAAD, 5050by2020 (part of the Time's Up initiative) and dozens of talent agencies, production companies and advocacy groups are calling on Hollywood to place a priority on telling stories about and by transgender people. GLAAD and 5050by2020.com have also created a guidebook called "Transform Hollywood," with information about how to find trans actors and projects created by trans people.
