On today's show:

Pay attention to the man behind the curtain

(Starts at 7:45)

Mitchell Froom has produced records for many prominent musicians, including Randy Newman, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt and Los Lobos. Froom’s early days were actually in the spotlight, as both performer and songwriter in the San Francisco Bay Area at the tail end of the psychedelic '60s. Today, his Santa Monica studio is jammed with a collection of vintage synthesizers and keyboards – including the celeste used on "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" to create the sound of "Trolley." Guest host Steven Cuevas sat down with Froom recently at the mixing console, where he’d just wrapped up recording sessions for Rufus Wainwright’s forthcoming album. They also talked about the release of Froom's own album, "Ether."

Coachella, Week 1

Mikael Wood of the Los Angeles Times wraps up the festival's first weekend — a new era that he refers to as A.B.: After Beyoncé.
