LAUSD Offer
Last night officials for the Los Angeles Unified School District made a NEW offer to teachers in an effort to stop a potential strike. The new proposal is a 6 percent raise over the next two years and it would be retroactive with three percent going all the way back to July 1st of 2017 and another 3 percent going back to this past July 1.

VA Bridge Housing
Councilman Mike Bonin’s office says the West L.A. VA campus in Brentwood will be the site of a new temporary housing facility, part of Mayor Garcetti’s “Bridge Home” initiative to combat homelessness.

Meet the Judges running for office number 16
A lot of important stuff will show up on voter ballots this November. But it seems like one of the most important races to in LA County also happens to be one that we hear about the least. That's the race for L.A. Superior Court Judge. This November, eight candidates will vie for just four open spots on the bench. The winners will serve six-year terms, and preside over matters both civil and criminal. From family law to felonies. KPCC has spoken to all candidates, asking each the same questions. Every day this week we'll hear from two. Today, we speak with the candidates for office 16, first up, Patti Hunter.

OC Schools LGBT Forum
The California Healthy Youth Act is the state’s comprehensive sexual education law that requires sexual education programs in middle and high schools to include information that addresses the needs of LGBTQ students. The act went into effect two years ago but today the Orange County Board of Education will host a forum to discuss it. But the forum has gotten pushback from the LGBT community over concerns that the panelists will individuals against the Healthy Youth Act who don’t represent the LGBT community.

LGBT Textbooks
The resistance to this law isn't just in Orange County. And it's not just to this law. Several school districts around the state have complained about the new curriculum requirements for the Healthy Youth Act. Meanwhile, others have grumbled about a new law to require schools teach students about LGBT history.

Getty African American Art Initiative
The Getty Research Institute is announced its establishing an African American Art History Initiative with the acquisition of the archive of prominent LA artist Betye Saar, known for provocative assemblages are her art and large-scale installations. The Getty is starting the project with an initial $5 million allocation and will be raising additional funds as the project develops.
