California's new eviction law, explained

People facing eviction from their homes now have a little more time to respond. That's thanks to a bill signed into law Wednesday by Governor Jerry Brown. The bill, authored by Assemblyman David Chiu of San Francisco, calls for renters to have three court days to pay after receiving an eviction notice and five days to respond to a lawsuit.

Sewage flow from Tijuana to San Diego

San Diego beaches were closed for more than five HUNDRED days in the last three years—due to polluted water from Mexico. That's according to a lawsuit filed by State Attorney General Xavier Becerra this week. The suit alleges the federal government violated the Clean Water Act by allowing water filled with sewage and other contaminants to flow from Tijuana into San Diego.

What one good samaritan is doing on the beach with his metal detector

One of our reporters was out surfing earlier this summer. It was on a weekday before work, when Bradley Bermont saw an older guy in a bucket hat, zinc on his nose, metal detecting on the beach. And Bradley couldn't figure out what that guy was doing there. It's not like Blackbeard left anything behind in Los Angeles. So he went to talk to him.
