California Fires — Are We Doing Better?

It's been a lot this week with the fires, but as overwhelming and awful as all of this has been — there is a silver lining: It could have been worse. Firefighters gained control of these blazes fairly quickly and part of that has to do with, yes, a little luck, but also, there's been some major improvements in how agencies are able to detect — and attack — the fires.

Katie Hill Speech

Congresswoman Katie Hill of Northern LA County bid a final farewell to colleagues today. Hill announced Sunday that she’ll leave the House after a conservative blog released intimate photos, texts, and allegations that she had an inappropriate relationship with a staffer. Hill was elected as part of a blue wave during the November midterm that flipped the House. Friday is her last day.

Spooky LA vignettes

The Science of Fear

For a true fright, the most hardcore of Halloween fans head to haunted houses. But what makes for a good scare? And what makes us truly afraid, anyways? Those are the questions that researchers right here are trying to answer.

Fire in Paradise Documentary

In 2018, a wildfire ripped through Paradise, a small town in northern California killing 85 people. And now, a new Netflix documentary is chronicling what happened, using cell phone footage and resident interviews.  The documentary is called "Fire In Paradise."
