Local Detention Centers
The federal government is pushing for local detention for adults and kids in spite of state and local officials' efforts. ICE wants to open more detention centers in California, including So Cal, ahead of a law barring new ICE detention contracts that takes effect in January; meanwhile, HHS wants to open a new shelter for migrant children in the San Fernando Valley, despite city and county officials' states wishes that they not.
