Wildfire funding
Rain is in the forecast this week, but as we move into the dry season this summer tensions are brewing between the U.S. Forest Service and local fire departments in the state. At the heart of the issue is a federal-state partnership called the California Fire Assistance Agreement.

Senator and presidential hopeful Kamala Harris took aim at the gender pay gap
Senator and presidential hopeful Kamala Harris took aim at the gender pay gap Sunday. Nationwide, women still make 80 cents for every dollar paid to men. That gap widens for women of color. Harris’ proposal would make larger companies meet new pay standards - and would fine them one percent of their profits for every one percent difference in pay. So how might a proposal like this work out in California?

Heal the Bay River Report Card
Today, Heal the Bay released its annual report card on water quality in LA's freshwater recreation areas. The River Report Card looks at bacterial pollution at 27 sites in the LA River, Malibu Creek and San Gabriel River watersheds, to determine their safety, assigning them color grades of red, yellow or green. With the area's freshwater recreational areas opening up this Memorial Day weekend, we thought we get detailed information on the results.

Migrant Planes
Thousands of Central American migrants have reached the US-Mexico border in recent months - many of them seeking asylum. Most have congregated near the Rio Grande Valley in Texas but there are so many that starting just a few days ago planes carrying hundreds of them are landing in California. They're being transferred to our state and processed at border control near San Diego instead.
