CA’s budget deficit is upwards of $54 billion, experts on how much screen time kids should have during the pandemic and one LA City Councilman on state of South LA.

Gov. Newsom on CA's Budget Deficit and Reopening

The size of California’s budget deficit is north of $54 billion. In his daily press briefing this earlier, Governor Gavin Newsom confirmed the state’s once sizable budget surplus is gone - largely because so many people are now out of work, he re-upped the call for federal help. Plus, his administration outlined some of things that businesses will need to to do if they want to reopen Friday.

California's DMVs Set to Reopen

Among the many places opening back up on Friday - the Department of Motor Vehicles. Since the end of March, the California DMV had closed all its locations around the state and shifted several services online. Anything that couldn't be done online had their deadlines pushed back. But starting tomorrow 25 DMV field offices will again allow in-person business to be conducted. Coronavirus: Sanctioned Campsites

American Homefront Project: Navy Sailors in San Diego

Military recruiting and training has slowed down because of the pandemic. So the armed services are trying other ways to maintain the size of the force. The Navy is encouraging sailors who were getting ready to leave the service ... to instead stay on for a few more months. From San Diego, Steve Walsh reports for the American Homefront Project. 

Coronavirus: LA City Councilman on South LA

As of today, 1,418 people who have died in LA County because of the coronavirus. And a total number of 29,427 people have or have had a confirmed case.While the virus has spread across the county and across many demographics ... parts of LA have been harder hit because of limited access to things like health care ... community resources ... and more. So today, we wanted to check in on one of those areas - South LA.
