Coronavirus Hospital Preparations

Governor Gavin Newsom says California’s entering a new stage in the fight against Covid-19, as related hospitalizations have doubled in the past four days. ICU admissions have tripled. Newsom on Monday also unveiled a new effort to bolster the ranks of medical professionals in the state. Strained hospitals will get some relief in the form of the USNS Mercy - a Navy hospital ship docked in the Port of Los Angeles Sunday. For the latest, we talk to KPCC investigative reporter Elly Yu.

Small Business Success Stories

President Trump has extended guidelines for Americans to socially distance themselves to the end of April. It’s very possible that it could continue into the summer, too. But just a few weeks in already, and many people are struggling to live normally when things have gotten so abnormal. Today, we check in on small businesses, which make up 97 percent of all businesses in the state. Take Two's Leo Duran talks to A Martinez.

Coronavirus Evictions

As coronavirus restrictions took hold throughout California, officials acted to slow the threat of eviction for people whose incomes have dropped and now can't make rent. On Friday, Governor Newsom issued a statewide moratorium until May 31, on evictions related to the pandemic. But many renters are still facing rent bills they can't pay and the threat of eviction. KPCC's Aaron Mendelson brings you the story of one tenant.

Judson Studios

Down the street from KPCC, near the Highland Park/South Pasadena border, is the oldest family-run stained glass studio in America, Judson Studios. The new book "Judson: Innovation In Stained Glass" details the studio's 120-year history and the role of stained glass in Los Angeles architecture. We dropped by the studio to chat with David Judson about the five-generation story of his family's company and learn about all things stained glass.
