With LA opening back up a little more to allow for more indoor hangouts, people on the street are feeling mixed, business owners are excited, and medical professionals are still prescribing caution

What to Know Now that LA - and Much of California - Is In the Red Tier

Los Angeles is opening back up...a little. We are officially in that less restrictive RED tier ...and so is a lot of California, for that matter. That means people can eat indoors, watch a movie in a theater and eventually go to Disneyland. But this does not mean,  we can let all our inhibitions go. We get some expert advice on how to mov forward.

Faith in a Pandemic Year: What's Been Lost - and Found

It's been quite a year with a lot of loss but also newfound joy in little things we may not have been aware off in our pre-pandemic lives. As we slowly come out of the fog that stay-at-home orders created around our lives, we want to reflect on where we have been and where we are headed. ​ To do that we have partnered with USC's Center for Religion and Civic Culture and commissioned sermons from faith leaders around our county. Restaurant Can Open Up Indoors Again - What to Expect at AOC, Tavern and Akasha

As we’ve talking about, Los Angeles County is officially in the red tier, which means you can again go to a move theater ...or your yoga studio ...or sit INSIDE at a restaurant. Of course it’ll be at a limited capacity so we wanted to hear how some some local eateries are handling the changes.

How DA George Gascon's Policies Could Help One Man Locked Up for More than 30 Years

DA George Gascón's push to review and reduce the sentences of prisoners who had years added on through enhancements and additional charges has drawn praise and criticism. Reginald Wheeler is one person who could benefit from the move; he's been in prison for 36 years for mugging a man and stealing his watch. Wheeler ended up with a sentence of 8 years to life because prosecutors added a charge of aggravated kidnapping, based on the fact that Wheeler walked his victim 100 feet away from the street when he robbed him. KPCC's Robert Garrova has his story. 

Oscar is Not So White in 2021, but Can Progress Be Maintained?

The 2021 Oscar nominations are officially out. The nominations for the 93rd Academy Awards were announced early this morning,  about two months later than usual, after an extremely unusual year for filmmakers AND moviegoers alike. But the picks happen to be some of the most diverse nominations ever.
