LAHSA Coronavirus

The potential of an outbreak among the homeless population in LA County is starting to concern public health officials as the coronavirus spreads. The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority announced today it's working closely with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and other city partners to develop a response to COVID-19. Reverend Andy Bales, CEO of Union Rescue Mission in Downtown LA, joins us to discuss.

Coronavirus LAUSD Emergency Powers

As some districts in the state move to close schools due to coronavirus concerns, all eyes have been on the LAUSD. Last night, the Los Angeles Unified School District Board voted to declare an emergency and gave superintendent Austin Beutner the broad authority "to take any and all actions necessary" to keep the system running. LAUSD is the second-largest school district in the nation. KPCC's Carla Javier joins us to discuss.

San Gabriel Valley Boarding Houses

Throughout the San Gabriel Valley, thousands of people live in illegal "boarding houses". These are barely habitable, sometimes dangerous apartment units and homes crammed full of beds. They cater to newly arrived Chinese immigrants with little money and few skills. KPCC's Yingjie Wang has been reporting on these boarding houses for most of the past year. She joins us to discuss.
