A Day Without a Woman

Thousands of women in Mexico are staying off the streets as part of a national strike to highlight the economic impact over the crisis of violence against women in the country. Dubbed Un Dia Sin Mujeres or A Day Without Women, the strike comes a day after about 80-thousand women marched to protest gender-based violence in Mexico City during International Women’s Day. Last year, Mexico classified a total of 1,006 killings as femicides or homicides targeting women specifically. Paulina Villegas, a reporter for The New York Times based in Mexico City, joins us to discuss.

ECE Trauma Training

Living in poverty, witnessing violence and the absence of a parent are all examples of situations that can hurt a child's development and their success in school. KPCC's Mariana Dale takes us to a preschool in the San Fernando Valley where teachers are learning how to work with those students. She also joined us to discuss how to talk to kids about coronavirus.
